Out of the Mouths of Babes...

Okay...so I've got a pretty terrible name (no offense honey)!  But I must say it is fun to hear what first graders and other young kiddos at school think of it.  So here are a few of my faves:

First Grader - I think your name is Whitehead because you are white and have a head.
Me - Yikes!  Then I'm glad my name isn't just Mrs. White or I might not have a head.
First Grader - thinks for a minute then laughs

Kindergartener - I know your name.
Me - You do?  What is it?
Kindergartener - Mrs. Whitehead!
Me - You're right!  That's a pretty silly name isn't it?
Kindergartener - Yes. (and giggles)
Me - You want to know a secret?
Kindergartener - Yes.
Me - I got it from my husband.
Kindergartener - Really?  What's his name?
Me - Mr. Whitehead!
Kindergartener - Now that's silly!

First Grader - I know why they call you Mrs. Whitehead.
Me - Why?
First Grader - Because you have black and white hair.

First Grader - I know why you are Mrs. Whitehead.
Me - Why?
First Grader - Come here.  (pulls my head down and pulls at my part) Because your head is white under that hair.

Thank you hillarious children for at least taking a name like mine and making me laugh!  :O)

Student Teachers

Well, after a crazy weather day - nothing like an hour long weather drill with our kindergarten friends joining us - I went to my old alma mater, TCU.  It was so nice to go back after (Gag!) almost 8 years and see two of my professors.  Who would have thought they would ask me back to speak to future teachers?!?!?  Well...they may not after today.  :O) 

But it just made me think of a simpler time when I was student teaching and had nothing but possibilities in front of me.  Don't get me wrong, I love where I am now.  It was just fun to see all these young girls so pretty and college-y listening to my presentation.  Ahhhhh...memories!
